Job Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Editorial Manager / Managing Editor to lead the creation and execution of high-quality editorial content. The ideal candidate will manage a dynamic team of writers, editors, and content creators, ensuring all content aligns with our brand, maintains high editorial standards, and meets business objectives. This role will drive editorial strategy, set clear content standards, and optimize workflows to deliver consistent, engaging material across all platforms. Additionally, this role will oversee distribution efforts and manage budgets to support goals effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and management of the editorial calendar to align with content strategy and business goals.
2. Manage a team of writers, editors, and freelancers, providing guidance, feedback, and support to foster high-performance and growth.
3. Work closely with sub-editors to refine content for clarity, style, and overall quality.
4. Oversee content creation to ensure top-tier editorial standards, consistent brand voice, and impactful messaging.
5. Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, grammatical accuracy, adherence to style guidelines, and brand consistency.
6. Collaborate with design and digital teams to enhance content engagement and distribution across platforms.
7. Manage editorial budgets, including freelancer payments and content-related expenses, in coordination with finance.
8. Oversee both print and digital distribution channels. Coordinate logistics, manage stock levels, collaborate with printers, distributors, and stockists to ensure seamless content delivery and product availability.
9. Monitor inventory levels, manage invoicing, and explore new distribution and stockist opportunities.
10. Oversee merchandise production and sales operations, ensuring smooth execution and profitability.
11. Ensure compliance with legal and ethical editorial standards, including image copyright and licensing.
12. Implement SEO strategies to boost visibility, improve search rankings, and drive audience engagement.
13. Establish and refine content workflows to streamline processes from ideation to publication.
14. Support with paid partner deliverables, including insertion orders, artwork deadlines, and invoicing for timely payments.
15. Stay informed on industry trends, audience preferences, and competitor activity to maintain a competitive edge.
Key Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in editorial management, content strategy, or a similar role.
3. Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and guide a team.
4. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
5. Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and editorial tools.
6. Strong understanding of SEO, digital marketing, and content analytics.
7. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
9. Familiarity with social media platforms and content distribution channels.
10. Proven fiscal control skills, with experience managing budgets and costs.
11. Event management experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in the publishing industry is highly desirable.
