This is an exciting opportunity for a child andadolescent consultant psychiatrist to become involved in transformation andleadership within a forward looking CAMHS service. Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental HealthServices work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across GettingHelp, Getting More help and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. Generic teamsare closely linked with LD CAMHS, Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS. The outof hours activity is supported by dedicated CAMHS crisis team, which operateson 24/7 basis and provides extended crisis input as well as home treatmentoptions as an alternative to hospital admissions.
The Redcar and ClevelandChildren and Young Peoples Service is based in The Ridings in Redcar, themajor population centre of the unitary authority area of Redcar and Cleveland,formerly part of the County of Cleveland. The premises are located next toFoxrush, the base for Adult Mental Health services in Redcar, which allows forgood working links with colleagues.
The post holder will have responsibility for the assessment andmanagement of mental and/or behavioural needs of children and young people presentingwith mental disorder and requiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected tooffer mental health assessment, psychiatric opinions, diagnosis and holisticcare plans for patients up to the age of 18, referred to them in hours and whenon call.
Direct patient contact wouldinclude new patients to service, new psychiatric assessments and reviewappointments. Main conditions would be expected to include: ADHD, ASD, AnxietyDisorders, Mood Disorders, Eating Disorders, Tic Disorders, Psychosis,Self-harm, Conduct Disorder and Sleep disorders.
The Children and Young PeoplesService uses the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and has a relevant all-age Trustpolicy. The majority of young patients are managed on Standard Care, there is aminority who require management using CPA. The post holder would have a mixtureof Standard Care and CPA patients on their caseload, typically those whorequire CPA require a more intensive and more senior level of staffinvolvement. The post holder would be Care Coordinator for some patients andoperate as Lead Professional or Co-worker for the remainder.
Clinical work would be expectedto be carried out predominantly within the clinical base at The Ridings inRedcar (or the new site after moving) but may occur within other settings forexample a young person may have strong feelings about being seen in an alternativecommunity setting or it may be more appropriate to see a young person at theirschool.
