An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced community nursery nurse with experience within 0-19 universal services to enhance their skills and knowledge within the new Pre and Post Birth Multiagency Team. This team will work alongside and in partnership with Children's Social Care in Redbridge to support families through pregnancy until 1 year post birth where an enhanced need is identified. The post holder will be based alongside children's social care within Lynton House in Ilford.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the specialist health visitors and wider team to offer support and guidance to parents and babies from pregnancy to 1 year. The post holder will be visiting mothers/parents to support the physical and emotional needs of them and their babies. The post holder will be required to work as part of the team and be able to act as an autonomous practitioner working on their own initiative. They will have a commitment to collaborative working to ensure that babies are offered the best possible start in life.
The post holder will work as part of the wider team with the aim to reduce safeguarding risks and reduce health inequalities.
The post holder will be required to have a minimum of 3 years experience working in the community and be able to demonstrate experience working with vulnerable families.
Job responsibilities
1. Work as part of the multiagency pre and post birth team, supporting parents and babies up to 1 year old.
2. Support in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families being managed by the multiagency pre and post birth team.
3. Provide health promotion and education as required.
4. Support with infant feeding advice and support antenatally and postnatally.
5. Assist in identifying additional needs of parents and babies.
6. Work with vulnerable families, being adaptive to need.
7. Contribute to assessment of the families on the caseload, providing knowledge around child development.
8. Act in accordance with Trust policy and guidelines regarding Child Protection as set out in the Child Protection Manual, the London Child Protection Procedures, and local Identification and Tracking procedures including escalation of concerns identified.
9. Participate in health led services as directed by the Health Visitors in accordance with Trust guidelines/procedures/policies/protocols.
10. Carry out home visits as appropriate and directed by the specialist health visitor.
11. Offer practical support and advice on caring for a new baby.
12. Offer support and advice around safe sleep, with the intention of supporting the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
13. Liaise with other professionals on matters related to safeguarding issues.
14. Provide information to child protection conferences as required in relation to specific cases, following local and national safeguarding procedures.
15. Work autonomously, with support from the direct line manager and wider team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level in childcare and development or equivalent experience.
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years experience working with children in the community.
* Experience of working as part of a 0-19 team.
* Experience of working with the multiagency team.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of Healthy Child Programme.
* Awareness of safeguarding children policies and procedures.
* Understanding of 'Think Family' approach.
* Awareness of confidentiality.
* Expertise within antenatal, postnatal and neonatal care.
* Relevant practical experience in offering support and advice for families with children up to the age of 1 year.
Skills
* Ability to assess the 'voice of the child.'
* Ability to complete a basic assessment of need of the child and family.
* IT skills with Microsoft Office.
* Able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
