Job summary As part of the wider team in general practice, GP Assistants provide a support role, carrying out administrative tasks, combined in some areas with basic clinical duties. They help to support GPs and contribute to the smooth running of appointments, improving patients experience in the surgery. The focus of the role is on supporting General Practitioners in their day-to-day management of patients, specifically aimed at reducing the administrative burden, making best use of consultation time and supporting access to appointments. Main duties of the job Supporting the Doctor: Recording and documenting findings and observations from a consultation under the instruction or supervision of a clinician. Supporting the administrative role of the GP in any way the GP deems appropriate, including the below but not limited to this list: Initiate and complete referrals Preparing patients going into see GP/Clinician with basic history and basic observations if relevant. Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy Requesting AccuRX photographs or relevant information to aid consultation if relevant. Chase up information from 3rd parties that relate to presenting patients. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for GPs to approve and sign-off such as insurance forms, mortgage forms, benefits agency forms etc. Prepare patient details for practice meetings including reviewing cases for presentation. Take minutes, log and track actions of practice clinical meetings. Undertake chaperoning duties. Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
