An opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team at Prospect Place! Prospect Place is a 45-bed unit that opened in 2011 and is based on the site of Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.
The unit is for men aged 18 to 65 years, who have a diagnosed psychiatric disorder, for example schizophrenia, and have been detained under the Mental Health Act. Alcohol and drug misuse are often a part of the problems faced by patients. A secure setting may be required to help address challenges around the patient's view of their illness and the vulnerabilities and risks to themselves and others that may result from this.
You will be an integral part of the team providing direct care to patients with a variety of mental health problems. Your responsibilities will include acting as the named nurse with overall care responsibility for an identified group of patients and regularly acting as shift co-ordinator to ensure the smooth running of the clinical area and best utilization of resources available, with support from senior staff.

Job Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for:
1. Keeping professionally updated in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council requirements.
2. Participating in clinical reflection through clinical supervision.
3. Accountability for behavior on duty and reporting anything untoward to a senior member of staff.
4. Acting as named nurse/key worker for an identified group of clients, ensuring the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
5. Devising care plans for clients and undertaking client activities as appropriate, ensuring a high standard of care.
6. Maintaining all appropriate client and ward records to the required standard.
7. Adhering to appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines.
8. Liaising with the wider multidisciplinary team to enhance the standard of care clients receive.
9. Participating in risk assessments and working within the framework of the Care Programme Approach.
10. Participating in staff inductions and acting as a preceptor to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified nursing staff.
11. Providing mentorship to others as part of your role and undertaking mentorship training.
12. Participating in the administration of controlled drugs according to Drug Prescribing Policy and administering all other medication in accordance with agreed procedures.
Person Specification
Education
* Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification.
Experience
* Experience of working within a mental health setting.
* Experience of working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team.
* Experience of admission and discharge processes.
* Experience of working within the framework of Care Planning Approach.
* Previous experience of working on an acute mental health ward.
