LP Engineer (Simulation) for Saudi - Chemical Engineer
Work Location: Saudi (must be willing to relocate)
Overview: The Global Optimizer Development Department’s (GOD) charter is to optimize crude allocation and the operations of global manufacturing facilities to maximize revenue, increase profitability, and capture international market opportunities. The division also acts as the LP gatekeeper for wholly owned refineries and the global MPIMS model and maintains an integrated global planning model used for optimizing global crude allocation and exploration of new international markets and integration options. The Rigorous Simulation Modeling Engineer consults on complex engineering and LP problems, reviews existing and new rigorous simulations to update or build up shift vectors for sub-models in PIMS structure, and ensures rigorous simulation accuracy to conduct LP Back casting, recommending improvements as required. This role will also have the opportunity to build a new grassroots refinery rigorous simulation, mentor and train less-senior LP engineers and process engineers, and provide specialized technical service in recognized engineering fields.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Run rigorous simulations to identify deviations from simulation and actual conditions.
2. Run the wide refinery model after SROP optimization to identify operational opportunities in the refinery.
3. Define data and work processes required to maintain and update rigorous simulations.
4. Develop non-linear equations to reflect operational variables into the PIMS AO model.
5. Maintain accuracy of the hybrid model for LP Engineers.
6. Collaborate with process engineers to guarantee accurate simulation output and debottleneck constraints to maximize refinery benefits.
7. Perform “back-casting” and issue a monthly report on the rigorous simulation gap along with required mitigations.
8. Support stakeholders in creating new models to evaluate new projects for downstream business.
9. Assist ASSAY experts to calibrate the TBP and cut points to reflect actual column efficiency.
10. Publish articles in leading trade magazines and/or industry journals.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field; MBA or a relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred.
2. Minimum of 9 years of professional experience in consulting and/or refinery industries, with an in-depth understanding of rigorous simulation for refinery processing units.
3. Expertise in developing rigorous simulations to extract shift vectors and process objectives, with at least 7 years of experience in Aspen Technology’s HYSYS model or PETROSIM.
4. Experience in developing rigorous simulations for hydrocracking, FCC, DHT, catalytic, and coker reforming units, and building a rigorous simulation model of a complete refinery (Wide Refinery Model).
5. A thorough knowledge of engineering practices, economic principles, and calculation methods.
6. Expertise in international business and cross-cultural professional practices.
7. Experience in developing integration between rigorous simulation models and ASPEN PIMS.
