CompEx Electrician in Thames Water Region
Role Overview
This position sits within our new ATEX Team.
The role will primarily involve carrying out site inspections, electrical installations and rectifications. In this role you will ensure compliance with IEC/BS EN 60079 standards.
This role involves regular travel across the UK and may sometimes be split to assist with industrial installation work across various water utilities sites.
Hand and specialist tools, PPE, and work uniform will be provided.

To be successful in this role you will have experience in Electrical, Instrumentation or Control Engineering and hold a current CompEx 01-04. This is a full-time, permanent position and the role will involve driving to customer sites, which may include some overnight stays away from home covering the below key responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct thorough ATEX/CompEX inspections to IEC / BS EN 60079-17 standards.
2. Ensure all identified risks and non-compliances are reported promptly and clearly.
3. Accurately record inspection results with attention to detail.
4. Carry out timely and high standard electrical rectifications, ensuring all issues are resolved to industry standards.
5. Work with area classification drawings and reports to confirm compliance.
6. Install containment and cable systems to a high standard, ensuring durability and safety.
7. Interpret and work efficiently from electrical wiring diagrams to ensure project goals are met.
8. Demonstrate time management to deliver inspections and rectifications on schedule and within scope.
9. Identify issues and contribute to improvements in inspection processes or equipment quality.
10. Collaborate with internal teams and clients to uphold site safety and compliance.
Key Skills and Knowledge
1. Proven ability and experience conducting ATEX/CompEX inspections, delivering high-quality reports, and achieving safety compliance.
2. Strong knowledge of BS EN 60079-14 & 17, ensuring all work meets or exceeds compliance requirements.
3. Skilled in glanding, terminating, and installing containment and cable systems.
4. Proficient in interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and area classification reports.
5. Competent in Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and Microsoft 365 for reporting and documentation.
6. Willing to travel across the UK, with flexibility to meet project demands.
7. Strong time management skills to deliver inspections and corrective work.
8. Understanding of WIMES.
Essential Qualifications
1. C&G 2391, 2391-52, or 2394 & 2395 - Inspection and Testing certification.
2. JIB Gold Card or Higher - Approved Electrician.
3. 3 years of hazardous area experience.
4. TWUL Safety Passport (desirable).
5. Full driving licence as the role is fully field based.
