Formed in December 2013, CHoICE is the subsidiary company of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT). Working in partnership with the Trust, CHoICE provides a Managed Health Care Facility to the Trust, to facilitate patient care.
CHoICE delivers a range of services including both Hard and Soft FM, and it is the Hard FM element (Estates) that we are seeking to recruit. CHoICE currently delivers services across a number of premises within South Tyneside and Sunderland. Very much One Team, but geographically based to provide responsive services, we have a vacancy for a Mechanical Supervisor (South Tyneside based). The successful applicant will lead and supervise a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical team, and this role offers an exciting opportunity for development and a range of experience.
The Estates team provide a coordinated approach in delivering services in line with all of our Statutory requirements, but also deliver against Key Performance Indicators, by which CHoICE's effectiveness is measured and monitored. The workload is varied, challenging and rewarding in equal measures. Health Care premises have complex Building Services, which are managed and maintained to extremely high standards, in order to deliver a suitable facility for providing health care, to those same exacting high standards. The satisfaction of supporting healthcare delivery cannot be understated.

Main duties of the job
As Mechanical Supervisor, you will be required to lead and supervise maintenance staff and specialist contractors. You will need to be able to plan, prioritise and implement Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) as well as manage the team to support Reactive service requests.
PPM comes with obligations in terms of Statutory requirements, but also contractual performance requirements (90%+). Similarly, response to Reactive requests, e.g. mechanical services breakdowns or requests, have performance requirements (90%+). Supported by a committed team of managers, these standards are currently attained and resourced to deliver against them.
Maintaining Clinical Service needs means there may be a requirement to support overtime or work to suit access requirements, which is not often but is required.
The team operate an Emergency On Call system, to avoid the needs for shifts, whilst balanced against maintaining support to patient care 24/7. The successful applicant will participate in the Emergency On Call (Engineer) rota as required.
In order to support the delivery of compliant systems, the applicant may need to be an Authorised Person (AP), in support of colleagues, in a number of areas, with Mechanical bias. AP roles are generally led by Estates Officers but supported by Supervisors. This offers an exciting opportunity for training and development, but also gain experience working alongside Estates Officers.
