Job Title: SMSC & Character Education Assistant
Location: Ryecroft School, Walsall, West Midlands WS2 7BH
Salary: £20,906.25 per annum (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.00pm
Contract: Permanent, Term Time only
Start: June 2025

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an SMSC & Character Education Assistant to join our close-knit team at Ryecroft School, part of Options Autism.
About the Role
At Ryecroft School SMSC learning and character education are central to all we do. It is our goal to ensure each pupil receives an enriched and meaningful curriculum offer that develops their character and their spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural learning experiences. To achieve this, some of your responsibilities will be:
* Working collaboratively with curriculum Leads and the Pastoral team to plan and support the delivery of learning that covers SMSC and character education
* Helping plan and support the delivery of themed learning days such as cultural days providing pupils with strong SMSC experiences
* Capturing and submitting evidence to support the schools’ accreditations for UNICEF, ECO Schools, Kindness and Wellbeing award
Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will be calm and sensitive at times of potential dysregulation, and they will be experienced in de-escalation, having a working and practical knowledge of key theories and frameworks of interventions which will emotionally support children.
They will also have the following attributes/qualifications:
* Experience working with SEN settings with complex pupils
* English Maths and ICT Level 2/ Grade 4/ C equivalent
* Experience delivering sessions to pupils on social skills
* Experience and knowledge of careers education and SMSC
* Relevant qualifications in education field
* Strong knowledge of different cultures and Religious Education
* Positive behaviour training and CPD
* CPD and knowledge of Autism and SEN

Our New Options School - Ryecroft School has capacity for 60 pupils, opened in September 2024 and caters for pupils with Autism and complex needs.
The school is located in Walsall. Walsall is a market town in the West Midlands County. It is located 9 miles north-west of Birmingham, 7 miles east of Wolverhampton and 9 miles from Lichfield.
