About the Opportunity:
Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services. Jacobs Nuclear provides the front end design and engineering capability across the PPP portfolio. We are looking for people who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges. As a result of this increasing demand for our services we are looking for a Lead Civil Engineer to join our team in Birchwood Park, Warrington.
Your initial responsibilities will be:
1. Lead teams to assist with consultancy guidance, feasibility, outline, and detailed design, referencing ‘Manuals For Streets’, ‘Sewers For Adoption’, ‘Design Manuals For Roads And Bridges’, ‘Specification For Highways Works’ and Building Regulations And Guidance.
2. Undertake the co-ordination of thorough site investigations, geo-environmental/contamination assessments; complete inspections, and identify and resolve any issues as appropriate.
3. Partake in ‘Appraise and Select’ and Feasibility studies, progressing through to the ‘Preliminary’ and ‘Detailed Design’ gates.
4. Produce high-quality designs, drawings, and reports using engineering materials from commencement to completion, which can readily be checked. Documents shall be prepared for feasibility, costing and construction purposes, including highways & drainage, street works, public works, SUDS, building drainage, utilities coordination/diversion of services.
5. Influence development and infrastructure master-planning using knowledge of Highways Act 1980, Water Industry Act 2004, Land Drainage Act, New Roads and Street Works Act, and other Statutory Instruments, etc, as required.
6. Preparation of Calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, Technical reports, Inter discipline design coordination and supervision.
7. Assist in recruitment, retention and management of staff and ensure successful outcomes for our clients/customers.
8. Ensure financial control of projects when acting as a Project Manager.
9. Undertake production and approval of single- and multi-discipline fee proposals for client/customer projects.
10. Undertake accurate and timely assessments of variations and appraisal of fee cost and/or timescale impacts, and agreement with client/customer organisations.
11. Manage engineering teams to ensure utilisation and recovery targets are monitored and achieved.
Here's What You'll Need:
A degree qualified (BEng or MEng), Civil Engineer.
Chartership Membership of either Institution of Civil Engineers and/or the Institution of Structural Engineers.
Experience in the design and detailing of highways & drainage, street works, public works, SUDS, building drainage, utilities coordination/diversion of services.
Knowledge of seismic design requirements for waste storage / processing plant beneficial.
Knowledge and use of BIM packages.
