We work a hybrid model here at McDonald's and are in the office 3 days per week and remote for two days.
The Opportunity
The Nutrition & Restaurant Food Safety Manager is responsible for delivery of both the McDonald’s UK & I Public Health Strategy and Food Safety priorities to both support and protect our Customers and the Brand. The role supports business and brand initiatives whilst providing insights into emerging food safety and nutrition issues. Strong team management will be key across both the Nutrition & Food Safety teams.
You will be the company SME for Nutrition providing nutrition expertise across the UK and I market to offer high level guidance, advice and support in relation to nutritional science & public health messaging and training across the business. You will also work closely with the Quality Assurance and Safety & Security teams to ensure we drive continuous improvements to our Food Safety systems and processes within our Restaurants.
The candidate should be a strong people leader, able to lead and develop a team. You will also serve as a brand ambassador, spokesperson and technical/business thought partner with external audiences. The role requires strong cross-functional collaboration throughout the organisation, both at a market and global level.
What will my accountabilities be?
1. Leading and developing a team of 4 across Nutrition and Food Safety.
2. Collaboration with multiple internal cross-functional teams including Comms, Marketing, Food Development, Legal, Operations, Supply Chain whilst engaging and influencing Senior Leadership Teams.
3. Collaborating with external suppliers and partners to build links and expertise.
4. External Stakeholder Management / Media / Communications
5. On-going engagement with key external stakeholders, serving as brand ambassador, spokesperson and business thought partner with external audiences
6. Support media team in ensuring timely and professional responses to media queries
7. Demonstrate a sound understanding of regulatory requirements within the UK and Ireland related to Nutrition, Labelling, Allergens, Food Safety and Food Law and be able to provide advice to the business on these areas.
8. Ensuring our provision of Allergen information is up to date, legally compliant and a customer-first approach is taken, including interpretation and implementation of any new regulation within this area.
Nutrition:
9. Lead the delivery of the Public Health Strategy through collaboration with Senior Management to ensure alignment of plans, priorities and implementation.
10. Ensuring delivery of external and internal nutrition commitments including implementation and monitoring of key nutrition metrics.
11. Working collaboratively with Food Development to support innovation in health.
12. Provide proactive and reactive support for the development and approval of a variety of nutrition communication tools, materials and messaging e.g. press releases, blogs, educational materials, executive presentations, Government consultations, and customer facing materials such as websites and packaging.
13. Translating complex scientific information to a wide range of audiences, including working closely with Marketing & Food Development to accurately label and communicate (e.g. claims) our menu.
Food Safety:
14. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure Food Safety is prioritised as part of projects and initiatives.
15. Drive the business Food Safety priorities, ensuring the correct stakeholders and engaged.
16. Lead and develop Food Safety projects from conception to launch.
17. Manage Food Safety incidences, aligning closely with cross-functional team.
18. Liaise with Primary Authority, building and maintaining a collaborative relationship.
19. Investigate any food safety non-compliance and incidences.
20. Strong understanding of allergen management and experience in allergen risk assessment, training and provision of information, leading and developing our allergen strategy.
What Team will I be a part?
This is a role within McDonald’s UK & Ireland. You will work within the Quality Assurance, Nutrition and Food Safety team, which sits within the Supply Chain team at McDonald’s. This role will report in to the Head of Quality Assurance, Nutrition & Food Safety.
Who are my customers?
Within this role, you will liaise with a number of different teams within McDonald’s. The successful candidate should therefore be great at building strong and collaborative working relationships.
Within McDonald’s you will work across a number of teams, including Food Development/ Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations, Legal and comms teams. You will also engage and support the wider Supply Chain team including Agriculture, Sourcing and Purchasing. You will interact with Digital and IT teams to ensure all information is up to date and legally compliant. The successful candidate will also work closely with our supplier partners.
Qualifications:
21. Degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related science
22. UK Registered Nutritionist
23. HACCP level 3
24. Extensive experience within the food industry in a nutrition, technical or regulatory role, driving strategy and large projects
25. Experience of managing a team
26. Experience of UK & Ireland (EU) food policy, nutrition policy and labelling legisaltion
27. Adapt quickly and easily to new or challenging conditions
28. Ability to multitask and meet short deadlines
29. Demonstrate a "can do" positive and committed attitude with a genuine desire and capacity to understand and relate to others
