We are currently seeking a talented Biocurator to join the Human Genomics Team at the EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). The team provides genome variation and regulation resources as part of the Ensembl project, human variation interpretation services including the DECIPHER platform, and data portals for partners around the world. With infrastructure based on EMBL’s extensive data resources, this role offers an opportunity to contribute to the challenges of ‘big data’ and enhance the utility of sequence data.
Your role
This exciting position involves developing a new open-source Perturbation Catalogue for harmonised and curated human gene, variant, and expression data. Funded through the Open Targets consortium, this project aims to create a comprehensive resource for understanding gene and protein modifications, aiding scientific and drug discovery communities. Responsibilities include developing data standards, ontologies, and curation protocols, both manual and automated, to standardise perturbation data. This work will support the development of algorithms and computational methods for functional genetics and target prioritisation, providing community standards, software, datasets, and a cloud platform with distributed data warehousing technology.
Collaboration
You will work closely with the EMBL-EBI team’s Full-stack Developer/Data Engineer, the wider Human Genomics team, and collaborate with scientists and bioinformaticians from EMBL-EBI, Wellcome Sanger Institute, Human Technopole, and industry partners such as GSK, Pfizer, Genentech, Sanofi, and MSD. You will also engage with the broader Biocuration community.
