The Dementia Services Department Leader will be a part of a dynamic team, made up of Meaningful Activities Facilitators, Admiral Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to significantly improve the experience of patients and their relatives whilst they are in hospital.
This role requires strong leadership skills, empathy, compassion, and the ability to make decisions contributing to the delivery of the dementia strategy. Demonstrable experience of and passion for working with people living with dementia is essential to this role.
As the leader for the services, you will organise and provide training, manage and develop staff, and provide opportunities for quality improvement and project work.

Main duties of the job
1. To be an expert clinical practitioner, providing leadership, management, and direction for all groups of staff (including ancillary and clinical support staff) to ensure that education and staff development needs are met.
2. To manage and lead projects appropriate to the schedule of work for dementia services in line with the Trust dementia strategy, focusing on enhancing the patient experience.
3. Provide and support complex, holistic assessment of the needs of patients living with dementia.
4. Provide evidence-based high-quality complex patient care and be visible, accessible, and responsive to the needs of teams, patients, and the public.
5. Develop specialised programmes of training for colleagues and care plans for patients living with dementia and give highly specialised advice to colleagues.
6. Promote the services and the high quality of care both within the Trust and externally on a local and national basis.
7. Act as lead practitioner and expert in evidence-based care for people living with dementia.
8. Provide daily and ongoing operational leadership and management.

Person specification
Training and Qualifications
* Registered General/Mental Health Nurse or Allied Health Professional
* Educated to degree level in a related healthcare science
* Successfully completed a previous NMC/AHP Approved Teaching and Assessing or Practice Assessor programme or equivalent
* Working towards Master's degree in related healthcare sciences or willing to undertake
Experience
* Change management, team building and organisational skills
* Experience of undertaking clinical audit and translating this into revised practice
* Experience of formal teaching and training of multiple disciplines
* Demonstrable post-registration clinical experience relevant to the area of practice
* Experience of presenting e.g. at conferences/seminars

* Practical knowledge and skills in assessing patients' needs and communicating the plan to colleagues

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
