British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for exceptional individuals to join our Met Observing team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. You’ll be joining our Met observing team and will help us to deliver our routine meteorological observations and ensure that the meteorological and atmospheric aerosol/chemistry equipment is maintained in good working order.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out the meteorological observations and duties described in the Met Station Instructions (MSI) as agreed by the head of Meteorology and Ozone Monitoring (MOM).
* Maintaining a suite of atmospheric science instruments.
* Organising and carrying out the work in a safe and professional way.
* Keeping all work areas in a tidy condition.
* Reporting major problems to the head of MOM when they arise.
* Maintaining or repairing faulty instrumentation when possible/appropriate.
* Requesting replacement stores in a timely fashion.
* Compiling monthly and annual reports of the work undertaken.
* Working with other staff to ensure that the operational and safety standards of the base are maintained.
* Undertaking general duties as required by the station leader.
* Carrying out regular weather observations to support flying operations and aircraft safety.
* Planning, carrying out, and writing up servicing and maintenance of Automatic Weather Station sites located off station.
For the role of Meteorological Observer and Technician, we are looking for somebody who has:
* A degree or HND in physics, chemistry, geophysics, meteorology, electronic engineering, or a related subject.
* Ability to solve technical/scientific problems.
* Practical experience of atmospheric science equipment.
