Job Description:
POSITION: Senior Mechanical Engineer (ME IV)
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Mechanical Engineering Leader

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Support internal and external customers in the design, documentation and deployment of world class automation equipment to a variety of industries. The person in this role must be skilled in multiple technical disciplines to be able to support each phase of projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
* May integrate components to produce the final design; and evaluate the design’s overall effectiveness, manufacturability, cost, reliability, and safety.
* In addition to design and development, the position may provide production supervision of parts and equipment, determine the causes of component failure, and test manufactured products to maintain quality.
* Position is responsible for maintaining project schedule throughout the design phase to support achieving of the overall project timeline.
* Position is responsible for creating and maintaining a detailed and accurate bill of materials.
* Position may be required to assist and communicate with customers on the project management and technical aspects of the product, participate in design reviews, and assist in product planning, installation, and operation.
* Position is responsible for appropriately documenting design and processes related to the end product.
* Position will utilize Solidworks and EPDM to create and store drawings electronically that can then be viewed, printed, or programmed directly into automated manufacturing systems.
* Position will also prepare variations and changes to current design drawings.
* Position may involve designing or modifying custom tooling (mold, dies, etc.) with product managers or customers.
* Position may involve process development on various systems with product managers or customers.
* Position will utilize the ERP (M1) system to create or modify parts and assemblies for Procurement.
* Assist or lead creating engineering process documentation.
* Ad-hoc projects as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position could lead and direct the work of other members of the technical team. Typically, this would be a technical report on a project-by-project basis without direct supervisory responsibilities. May train and supervise interns and other Mechanical Engineers. May act as temporary Mechanical Engineering Leader as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
B.S.E and 10 + years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Math Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Professional Engineer Certification Preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Minimal time will be spent, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and crouching. Some time will be spent reaching with hands and arms, and talking and hearing, lots of time will be spent sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel. Lots of time will be spent lifting up to 10 lbs, and minimal time will be spent lifting up to 50 lbs. The following vision requirements are needed:
* Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
* Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
View computer monitor for extended periods of time. Utilize fine motor skills for precision human interface device (HID) inputs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Minimal time will be spent near fumes or airborne particles, near toxic or caustic chemicals, in outdoor weather conditions, with risk of electrical shock, and with explosives. And some time will be spent working near moving mechanical parts. Moderate noise can be expected.
