Job summary
Reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Manager, this highly proactive role will support the management of Health and Safety across the Trust.
Your principal role will be to support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System whilst undertaking a regime of training, continual auditing, monitoring and review.
You will support the Trust by reviewing policies and procedures in relation to Occupational Health and Safety and promoting, at all times, a strong 'Safety Culture'.
Main duties of the job
To support the Health and Safety Team in the promotion of a consistent approach to the management of Health and Safety across the Trust through helping managers to develop local policies, guidelines and audit criteria which will assist staff in complying with Trust Policies and Statutory requirements.
Promote the general health, safety and welfare of employees through collaboration with other departments and individuals who have responsibilities in respect of health, safety and welfare issues as appropriate.
Job responsibilities
Main responsibilities are:
* Actively engaging with staff side and nominated Safety Representatives ensuring effective two-way communication and consultation, and involvement in joint H&S inspections and audits.
* Collaborating with external organisations, Contractors and Consultants as appropriate.
* Supporting the team to ensure health and safety codes of practice, policies, procedures and standards are in place and updated accordingly on a regular basis.
* Supporting with the identification and development of training to ensure relevant developmental events and training exercises are delivered.
* Undertaking a programme of health and safety inspections, audits as directed by the Senior Health and Safety Manager.
* Supporting colleagues in their efforts to embed a safety culture.
* Supporting with the implementation and operational maintenance of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard.
* Oversight and maintenance of the health and safety internet site.
* Coordination of a programme of health and safety tours and inspections across the divisional and Corporate management team.
* Assisting the Senior Health and Safety Manager with non-clinical investigations.
* Supporting the Health and Safety Team with the successful delivery of relevant communications across the Trust.
* Managing and maintaining the health and Safety helpdesk responses.
* Promoting a positive health and safety culture across the Trust.
* Supporting the wider Health and Safety Team as appropriate.
* Working across multi sites as required (Trust wide).
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* HND/equivalent in relevant subject.
* Membership of Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (Affiliate member IOSH or above).
Desirable
* Degree in a relevant subject (for example Health and Safety, Law, Environmental Health, Risk Management).
Special knowledge including experience
Essential
* Good working knowledge and experience of legal aspects in relation to H&S.
* Experience of working with the HSE and other enforcement bodies.
* Computer literate in Microsoft Packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint IT Skills.
Desirable
* Experience of ISO45001 Auditor.
* Experience as a H&S Advisor within the NHS or a similar complex organisation.
* Experience of undertaking complex investigations following serious incidents.
* Understanding of Public and Employer Liability Claims management processes.
* Experience and knowledge of the principles and practice of risk management.
