A high-performing Transactional Real Estate team is seeking a Supervising Lawyer to join its expanding Leeds practice. This non-client-facing role focuses on providing high-quality supervision to junior lawyers, particularly those in the 0-3 PQE range. The primary objectives of this role include:
* Ensuring that junior lawyers receive thorough guidance, allowing for deeper discussions on legal principles, arguments, and approaches.
* Freeing up senior lawyers to focus on complex matters while maintaining strong supervision across the team.
* Addressing feedback from junior lawyers who seek more structured mentorship and development opportunities.
The Supervising Lawyer will not be responsible for overseeing matters from start to finish but will instead provide supplemental supervision, engaging on an ad hoc basis. This role is well-suited to an experienced commercial property lawyer seeking a change in focus, including those interested in part-time work and professional development.
This will be the second appointment of a Supervising Lawyer within the team, creating a small dedicated group focused on training and mentoring junior talent.

The Real Estate Group is one of the firm’s largest, consisting of nearly 200 professionals. The Leeds Transactional Real Estate team includes six partners and over 40 fee earners. Recognised as a Tier 1-ranked team, it was awarded both the Yorkshire Property Insider Awards and the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards Real Estate Team of the Year in 2023.
The team has a strong reputation for its transactional expertise and commercial approach to property matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervising junior lawyers across a range of high-profile commercial real estate transactions, including landlord and tenant matters, property management, acquisitions, development & regeneration, and corporate support.
* Supporting the professional development of junior team members by providing detailed feedback, fostering problem-solving skills, and encouraging commercial awareness.
* Identifying training needs and assisting in the design of training programs based on common themes observed during supervision.
* Assisting with larger projects as required, including title reports, lease reports, and legal research.
* Collaborating with the firm’s principal client account teams, working with investors, developers, and occupiers such as Realty, Aviva, CBRE GI, Columbia Threadneedle, British Land, and various local authorities.

* Be a senior real estate lawyer with at least six years of relevant experience, particularly in complex commercial property matters.
* Demonstrate strong mentoring and supervisory skills, with a passion for developing junior lawyers.
* Have the ability to explain legal concepts clearly, unpack first principles, and encourage a thorough approach to problem-solving.
* Exhibit commercial awareness and an understanding of clients’ business drivers.
* Remain calm and composed in time-sensitive situations, with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
