Summary of job: This position reports to the Surface Group Manager. The role is based in the company's R&D Department and focuses on the fault diagnosis and repair of current and new sophisticated electronic systems and subsystems. Working with enthusiastic Electronics Engineers, the work will involve the full product lifecycle from testing initial system design through to manufactured designs. As an electronics repair technician you will demonstrate an understanding of fault diagnosis and repair of complex electronics systems, displaying excellence in technical understanding and a willingness to learn new designs as the product lifecycle is refreshed. Authorities: Design repair or suggested improvements, unit testing before release, and reporting of logged repairs. Requisition of components for repairs. Responsibilities Responsible to Surface Group Manager for specific repair of electronics designs: Provide colleagues with accurate estimates of timescales for repairs. Basic use of the Management Information System for checking bills of materials, drawing numbers and bought out parts. Assist in raising Manufacturing Change Notes for design changes and enhancements. Assist in raising permits and concessions as appropriate to allow production to continue. The implementation of approved changes to the design. Assist liaising with new and old suppliers both on and off site. Assist liaising with Fitters, Test Engineers and others as required. Assist building prototype assemblies. Have working understanding of appropriate company, national and international standards in product repairs, e.g. IEC61010, ISO13485, 21CFR820 etc To keep up to date with working knowledge of analogue and digital circuits as well as PLD/ FPGA/ microcontroller/ microprocessor design. To raise Design Change Requests whenever problems or opportunities arise. Assist in evaluation and testing of prototype designs. Investigation of problems found on existing design in engineering, test and from field failures. Providing technical assistance and advice to colleagues as required. Production of relevant, timely and accurate documentation for reporting of faults. Qualifications - Essential(E)/Desirable(D): Bsc/BEng degree / HNC in electronics (or equivalent experience/competences) (D) Experience - Essential(E)/Desirable(D): Proven demonstratable experience of fault finding techniques and repair. (E) Proven ability to read schematics and problem solve with information obtained. (E) Working understanding of both digital and analogue designs. (E) Any knowledge of embedded FPGA control and acquisition systems will be considered an advantage. (D) Experience of testing and verification. (D) Basic computer skills and an ability to use in house test software. (D) Any understanding of EMC, RoHS and UL approved products is a benefit. (D) Experience with surface mount components for solder/de-soldering. (D) Working knowledge of Lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and stand-alone power supplies etc (D) HV circuit knowledge is an advantage.
