Band 7 Delivery Suite Ward Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Maternity Services at Oxford University Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust for an exceptional, committed, and motivated midwife for the post of Delivery Suite Ward Manager.
The Band 7 midwife has continuing responsibility while on duty to manage the Delivery Suite, including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards.
The Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence-based midwifery practice through professional leadership and support for the clinical team.
The post holder will have managerial responsibility for a group of staff working within their practice area.
Main Duties of the Job
Role Summary:
The Band 7 midwife has continuing responsibility while on duty to manage the delivery suite or equivalent sphere of midwifery practice, including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards.
The Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence-based midwifery practice through professional leadership and support for the clinical team.
The Midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.
The Midwife will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to care for women, their babies, and their families.
The Midwife will report directly to and develop close working relationships with the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Manager on operational and general management issues relevant to their practice area/team.
The Midwife will liaise with members of the OBU Midwifery education team to develop an effective learning environment for students and new members of staff.
The Midwife will assist the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Matron in achieving the strategic objectives for the Maternity service.

Here in Oxfordshire, we offer women and healthcare professionals a unique set up of our Maternity Services where around 7200 babies are born annually. We have 4 stand-alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county as well as offering home births to all areas. The John Radcliffe offers a large Delivery Suite with an en-suite birthing pool room, 3 Maternity theatres, and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward.
For those working with us, we have a named Maternity Psychologist 3 days a week to support all staff, as well as a team of Professional Midwifery Advocates to provide pastoral support. We strive to ensure every member of our team feels valued and has the confidence to speak up and be heard.
Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
* Registered Midwife with NMC
* Midwifery or Nursing degree or equivalent experience
* Evidence of ongoing education development
* Significant experience within intrapartum care
* 3 years experience as a midwife
Experience
* Clinical midwifery experience acquired through practice
* Ability to manage complex caseloads
* Able to work as an advocate for women, families, and colleagues
Skills and Aptitude
* Demonstrable professional leadership and negotiating skills
* Ability to undertake audit
* IT skills, including report writing and data entry
* Knowledge of safe staffing and roster software
Personal Attributes
* Highly self-motivated, positive, and enthusiastic
* Leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with the multi-professional team
* Able to support staff in clinical situations
* Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances

* Detailed knowledge of current UK midwifery issues
