We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Urology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful department.
The Urology department has 9 full time consultants and provides cover across a wide spectrum of Urological Practice including BPH, incontinence, laparoscopic surgery, and stones. The Consultants operate a 1 in 8 on-call rota system. The middle grade doctors are on a 1 in 8 rota with 24/7 onsite junior support (FY1-2/CT doctors) and have a full 3-tier rota. In addition, the Urology Department is supported by a strong Specialist Nurse/Practitioner team. We currently have a nurse consultant, a Lead Nurse, 5 Urology Cancer Nurses, and two Urology Nurse Practitioners who all run certain follow-up and telephone clinics as well as performing procedures, e.g., TRUS biopsies, cystistat, and in the near future, flexible cystoscopies. The Urology Department has a monthly audit half-day and the candidate would be expected to participate actively in this. There would be opportunities for research and publications (which would be actively supported), and attendance at Urology courses and conferences as appropriate for the successful appointee.
The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as:
1. Undertake clinical responsibility for a range of urological patients.
2. In agreement with relevant consultants teams, maximise the use of spare theatre lists and clinics where appropriate and the appointee's expertise allows.
3. Jointly responsible, together with the Registrar and six Specialty Doctors, for the daily running of the ward and the care of the inpatient.
4. Participation in the Urology (middle-grade) On Call rota which will be 1 in 8.
5. Support the development of clinical governance, using audit findings to improve the quality of treatment and to minimise clinical risk.
6. Participation in departmental teaching and to ensure continued professional development.
At our client's location, there is a wealth of choice with city living, small towns, and villages all within reasonable commute to the hospitals. There are excellent schools and a wide variety of social and leisure activities to choose from, with close transport and railway links to cities such as London and Birmingham.
