Our focus is on creating a safe, sustainable, and legal marketplace in Staffordshire that supports businesses, people, and communities. The Trading Standards service has responsibility for the enforcement of regulation across a wide variety of legislation. The service aims to prevent harm and/or financial loss to consumers by working with business to ensure compliance and a fair-trading environment. Main Responsibilities All our officers contribute to the broader work of the service, including investigations, animal health and welfare, protecting vulnerable consumers, and supporting sports ground safety. You will work across various trading standards areas; this post will focus on: • Product safety • Underage sales • Licensing (alcohol, explosives, and petroleum) • Food standards and fair trading • Business advice The Ideal Candidate You will have: enforcement experience and preferably hold a trading standards qualification (DCA, RCO Apprenticeship, or similar, ideally with recognised competence in Food Standards) We also welcome applications from part-qualified candidates with relevant enforcement experience. We offer support for continuing personal training and development towards full qualification or equivalent. We are also looking for someone who: has a demonstrable breadth of experience across trading standards areas of work has a clear understanding of the principles of balanced enforcement including risk assessments and proportionality Has good and Effective communications skills has working knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases and Outlook You should be able to travel efficiently across Staffordshire and have a flexible approach to out-of-hours and weekend working, including participation in an out-of-hours rota.
