This is an exciting opportunity for newly qualified Physiotherapists or those looking for a change to join our integrated inpatient rehabilitation services across Magnolia unit, Capetown & Canterbury wards offering rotations to develop core physiotherapeutic skills in a supportive MDT environment. You will have an opportunity to complete a variety of inpatient rotations including Stroke & Neuro -rehabilitation, multipathology rehabilitation, non -weight bearing and spinal pathway as well as a potential to expand to community and MSK rotations in future.
The role is fully supported by senior AHP clinicians, with scheduled in- service training and development pathways to meet your career progression needs.
• TAs part of the Integrated therapy service providing care to a multi cultural and diverse population, your role with involve delivering a high standard physiotherapy service, enabling patients to achieve the their goals through intensive rehabilitation programmes in a structured environment. You will work alongside more senior staff or to have access to senior support at all times during normal working hours.
• To perform physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations of physical and psychological conditions, to provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
• To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or particular patient type, working under supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available when required; clinical work is routinely evaluated.
• To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
• To be aware of and to highlight to your line manager any clinical governance issues pertaining to your role and practice.
• With support and guidance from more senior staff to undertake an evidence-based audit or projects to further own and team’s clinical practice within each rotation or post.

Clinical
Under the guidance of more senior staff
• To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and that work delegated to support staff.
• To assess patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies: using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.
• To utilise knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options to select and deliver a physiotherapy programme to individual patients and plan their successful discharge.
• To take responsibility for a delegated caseload, managing patients with a variety of conditions and pathologies
• Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
• Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and carers to progress rehabilitation and treatment Programmes This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
• When working in the community and domiciliary settings seeing patients already known to the service, e.g. follow up home visits, to work as lone practitioner with prearranged telephone support from a named senior physiotherapist.
• To be responsible for maintaining accurate comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards.
Professional
1. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and to maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
2. To implement knowledge of relevant evidence based practice, developing a more in depth knowledge of particular conditions and patient types according to the rotation/placement/post
3. Where appropriate to assist in the clinical supervision of physiotherapy students as part of the team
4. To provide support and guidance to TIs and assistant staff working as part of the team.
5. Undertake an evidence-based project
6. Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with agreed personal development programmes to meet individual and service objectives.
7. Undertake measurement and evaluation of own work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or as part of a team with more senior physiotherapists.
8. Be an active member of the in-service training programme, attending tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review sessions as appropriate and as identified in own PDP.
Organisational
To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations change/arise.
To undertake the collection of data for use in service audit and for monitoring service level agreements.
Be responsible for the safe and competent use of equipment, through teaching and supervision of practice.
To communicate regularly and effectively with other members of the physiotherapy service in order to ensure seamless physiotherapy provision to patients moving between different areas of the service.
To be aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies, which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including your prompt recording and reporting of accidents to senior staff, and ensuring that equipment use is safe.
To comply with the organisational and departmental policies and procedures and to be involved in the reviewing and updating as appropriate.
To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Service Manager of the Physiotherapy Service.
