Senior Ultrasonic Engineer – Tomography
We are exclusively partnering with an emerging technology developer based in Ely on their latest recruitment drive which will see the company double in size. A startup, in R&D stage, financially backed by a wider global organisation, that innovates and creates exceptional products, technologies and services that will improve the lives of people while collaborating with some of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities. Within walking distance of Ely train station this role is accessible from both London and Cambridge within 1 hour. The successful candidate will be at the centre of a high-performance R&D Team that operates under the core SCRUM principles.
Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hours: 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday (option to work from home on Wednesdays)
Hourly Rate / Salary: Circa £60,000

What your day to day might look like:
1. Develop ultrasonic signal processing algorithms for various tomographic applications
2. Explore Ultrasonic propagation through multi-phase/multi-material media
3. Theoretical modelling as well as numerical and conduction of physical experiments
4. Develop (COMSOL) simulations
5. Optimise sensor design and material compatibility – testing sensors using phantoms
6. Lead the development of Ultrasonic Tomography
7. Participating as a lead ultrasonic/tomography expert (SM)
8. Firmware level architecture definitions to sensor design and signal processing optimisation
9. Proposing improvements in tools, processes and techniques
10. Contributing to customer facing meetings
11. Reviewing technical proposals and providing accurate estimates
12. Defining and architecting the ultrasonic (chirp) excitation protocols and response functions as a guide for the FPGA pulse control as well as signal processing
What our client is looking for from you:
1. 3+ years of commercial experience gained in product development R&D
2. A PhD or MSc or an equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Medical, and/or Mathematics
3. Experimental ultrasound laboratory and Practical Signal processing skills
4. Proficiency in MATLAB and preferably in object-oriented Python /C++ to accelerate algorithm implementation in PYNQ type FPGA overlays
5. Designing, developing, implementing and debugging signal processing software
6. Experience with Electrical Engineering fundamentals
7. Postgraduate level research experience in advanced (ultrasonic) signal processing
8. Ability to use SCRUM project management principles and technique
9. Experience in developing and implementing complex imaging or tomographic algorithms
10. Knowledge and experience of signal processing techniques and algorithms, particularly those relevant to imaging or tomographic applications
11. Knowledge of embedded software/Firmware development
12. Knowledge of scientific programming language skills such as Matlab, python, C/C++
13. Strong coding background and previous industrial or research project experience in inverse problems, tomographic techniques, flow imaging and/or complex signal processing
