We are delighted to have the opportunity to appoint a new Consultant Radiologist / Nuclear Medicine Physician.
The Nuclear Medicine service at Royal Free London provides a wide range of general nuclear medicine imaging, hybrid imaging with SPECT-CT & PET-CT and a large radionuclide therapy service, supporting the array of specialist services provided by the Trust.
The Royal Free site has 2 SPECT-CTs, a SPECT and 2 PET-CT cameras, one of which is a Total Body PET-CT (first in the UK). Barnet Hospital has a SPECT-CT camera. PET-CT imaging is performed with18F-FDG,68Ga-PSMA,68Ga-DOTATATE,18F-Choline and18F-florbetapen.
The post holder will work with the existing nuclear medicine team and is expected to be fully trained in diagnostic nuclear medicine and PET-CT reporting. Radiologists qualified to report PET-CT without the full range of Nuclear Medicine experience will be considered. Candidates wishing to work part time will be considered.
The post includes working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the services in line with performance KPIs and clinical outcome metrics. The post holder will provide professional clinical advice to other members of the nuclear medicine department, referring clinicians and hospital management and will attend relevant departmental meetings to ensure safe and effective services. The job requires the post holder to be able to work under pressure and to be flexible and adaptive to the needs of the patient and the service.
Expertise in reporting PET-CT is essential and SPECT-CT strongly desirable.
• Competently interpret and report PET-CT studies independently.
• Competently interpret and report general nuclear medicine and SPECT-CT studies independently
• Be able to effectively represent patients and present scans at MDTs.
• As per IR(ME)R 2017 the successful candidate should be eligible to obtain their own practitioner ARSAC licence.
• The post-holder will be expected to take part in appropriate accreditation activities including External Quality Assurance Schemes and also participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. The Trust will ensure that time and support are available to allow every consultant to comply with the Royal College of Radiologists/ Physicians annual requirements for CPD.
• Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
• Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
• Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
• Participate in clinical audit.
• Participate in service development and policy review.
• Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
• Share in the assessment and introduction of new techniques and in planning staff and equipment requirements.
• Contribute to research
The post will be initially be based at the Royal Free Hampstead site, supporting and developing the nuclear medicine service to ensure a high quality of care for the patients across the Royal Free Group Hospitals. However, the successful candidate may be expected to contribute to cross-site working between The Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals if the need arises. A merger with North Middlesex University Hospitals is planned.
Sessions working from home are also an option.
