About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA) Team based at the Crewe depot or Preston depot.
Balfour Beatty, in alliance with Network Rail, AtkinsRéalis, and TSO, is delivering track renewals, crossings, and infrastructure upgrades across key UK rail routes. By combining expertise and using innovative digital and mechanised solutions, the alliance aims to improve efficiency and create a more reliable railway.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will work with the Head of HSW responsible for the CRSA Alliance to provide guidance; support, advice and governance to the project on all health, safety and wellbeing related subjects.
What you'll be doing
* Implementation of the HSW strategy for the business
* Lead and manage the overall capability, development, deployment and performance of health and safety requirements within the CRSA Alliance
* Provide professional H&S services to the business.
* Providing H&S Leadership, demonstrating a strong partnering ethos across the region
* Building and developing relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
* Ownership of H&S Governance for the region
* Influencing continuous improvement on area or responsibility
* Promoting and living the Balfour Beatty Values across area
* Performance management and reporting for the designated work area, analysing trends to build improvement in line with contract requirements
* Ensure accurate reporting and trending of performance for area of responsibility
* Oversee and where necessary carry out investigations for any incidents across the CRSA and feedback any lessons learned
* Support project teams to ensure they are compliant with all customer contract requirements, legislation and the processes and procedures outlined in the BMS
* Utilise the findings from reporting data, assessments, external and internal audits to drive performance improvements
* Provide on-going expertise, support and coaching to contracts, projects and offices through regular and structured site visits, communications and training
* Maintain and develop wider HSES skills and knowledge
* Coach and mentor direct reports for succession planning and professional/personal development.
* Regular communication and promoting engagement with key stakeholders.
* Support and maintain a constant focus on the behavioural safety programme across area.
* Ensure robust near miss/incident/accident investigations are undertaken
* Support the H&S upskilling and development of the business operational teams.
* Promote H&S initiatives and innovations across their area and the wider Alliance.
* Conducting site audits, inspections, visits & joint tours
* Responsible for local & external audit programme across their area.
* Assist in the identification of site HSW training need
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH/IEMA) or working towards.
* Educated to Diploma/Degree/HNC level
* Experience in rail construction environment
* Willingness to travel (company car/car allowance provided with role)
* Influencing and persuasion skills
* Analytical skills with an attention to detail
* Motivational, leadership and coaching skills
* Excellent communicator
* Displaying and demonstrating the Balfour Beatty behaviours at all times.
* Experience of leading and managing teams
* Experienced incident investigator
* Experience of reviewing and producing HSES reports
