Optimise by Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced and driven Project Director with Tier 1 contractor experience to join a well-established South Yorkshire based main contractor with an annual turnover of between £8-10 million.
Specialising in delivering high-quality projects across the public sector, hospitality, and refurbishment sectors, they pride themselves on their collaborative approach, commitment to excellence, and ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Due to continued growth and a diverse project portfolio, they are now looking for a Project Director to join their dynamic team and lead current and future projects to success
As a key leader within there organisation, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing construction projects, from inception through to successful completion. This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-value projects while utilising your extensive expertise in project management, client relations, and construction processes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Senior Point of Contact: Act as the senior contact for clients, site managers, and project teams.
* Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and seek new business opportunities.
* Team Development: Lead, support, and nurture the development of the project management team.
* Project Planning: Oversee the initial planning phase of live projects, ensuring smooth handover from estimating.
* Procurement Strategy: Advise and implement effective procurement strategies.
* Risk and Cost Control: Perform risk management, value management, and cost control throughout the construction process to ensure that projects remain on track both financially and in terms of time.
* Budget Oversight: Manage project budgets, ensuring costs are controlled, and report on the financial performance of projects monthly.
* Financial Management: Oversee cash flow, internal valuations, CVRs, and external valuations. Approve external valuations and manage subcontractor applications and payments.
* Contractual Guidance: Provide advice on contractual claims, disputes, and legal matters.
* Project Close-out: Lead the close-out procedures and chair lessons learned meetings.
* Continuous Improvement: Innovate and improve project management methods, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency.
* Efficiency & Consistency: Ensure consistency across the PM team and improve the performance of project management practices.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
* Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to liaise with clients, professionals, and site workers effectively.
* Resilience & Problem-Solving: Able to manage unforeseen challenges and find solutions under pressure.
* Decision-Making Under Pressure: Skilled at making quick, informed decisions to keep projects moving forward.
* Commercial Awareness: Solid understanding of managing cash flow, project budgets, and ensuring profitability.
* Numerical & IT Proficiency: Strong numerical skills and familiarity with project management software and building methods.
* Project Management Expertise: Extensive experience in managing large-scale construction projects from start to finish.
* Construction Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of construction technology, processes, materials, and legal matters relevant to the industry.
