Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually – all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Position Description:
Responsible for repairs, maintenance work, both interior and exterior, alterations and remodeling of buildings and offices as well as special projects. Overall responsibility for maintaining the pool and training other staff in its upkeep. In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Facilities, assigns tasks to other building technicians. The work schedule for this position will generally coincide with weekends while camp is in session. Normally Wednesday-Sunday from March through November and Monday-Friday from December through February.
* Through positive leadership, demonstrate the core values of the organization.
* Move furniture and other items, as requested.
* Open and close buildings for the season.
* Be available to assist other facility staff in their work, as needed.
* Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
* Perform annual building inspections.
* Overall responsibility for opening, closing and maintaining the pool as well as training other staff in its upkeep.
Our Lead Buildings Technician should have…
* The ability to, in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Facilities, assign tasks to other building technicians.
* Five years of experience in building trades: HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work.
* Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to areas of assignments.
* A Certified Pool Operator's certificate.
* The ability to multi-task and prioritize workday/projects independently.
* The ability to operate a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe and effective manner.
* Familiarity with computers.
* The ability to troubleshoot systems.
* The ability to communicate clearly with manager and other team members.
* The ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
* The ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours).
* The ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends and on-call hours as needed.
* The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
* A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements. Ability to travel to assigned worksites.
