Head of Sustainability (Director) - Building Surveying and Maintenance Firm
The Head of Sustainability (Director) is a crucial and potentially transformational new role being created within our clients employee owned business. The overall purpose of the role is to create a sustainability strategy for the company, and to drive the implementation of ESG across all aspects of our business and can be broadly separated between:-
Business operations - the way we operate as a business.
Professional services the way that we provide services to clients including both existing services, plus the establishment of new service lines to meet our clients requirements and to generate new income streams for the business.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Business Operations
Oversee the development and implementation of refined company policies and procedures in terms of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) review, update, improve and / or replace existing policies.
Oversee the development of our Science Based Target Initiative action plan https://sciencebasedtargets.org/ to assist in terms of reducing our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions (from a 2019 base line) before 2030.
Oversee improvements to enhance our existing B Corp certification, to maintain and improve our B Corp score in future years.
Liaise with key clients to understand their requirements from us as a business, in relation to sustainability.
Contribute to the work of the Business Development and Marketing Committee in terms of pushing sustainability identity and market perception. To align with the business plan, particularly our Purpose and Vision.
Provide leadership and guidance on ESG matters to the Leadership Team.
Provide regular monthly reports and recommendations to the leadership team on ESG
improvements, initiatives and future trends.
Chair and lead sustainability committee a small working group of employees from all levels, at quarterly meetings. To help disseminate information and business improvements, getting all employees engaged and involved in sustainability initiatives.
Identify and implement suitable internal training for existing surveyors, to help improve and enhance their knowledge, expertise and confidence to advise on Sustainability.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of all new business and client care programmes and initiatives.

To review and identify potential new service lines that could be rolled out in terms of sustainability and thereafter help to oversee the development of process pathways and reporting templates / formats.
2. Professional Services
Review existing building surveying and project management reporting templates to identify and implement improvements to bring sustainability issues / reporting to the forefront of our advice.
Ideally you will have existing buildings experience and a construction industry background.
Identify and implement new sustainability service line offerings (e.g.- BREEAM, EPC, Decarbonisation / Net Zero pathway reports, energy modelling, NABERS / Design for Performance/RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment and other life cycle assessments) that Trident could introduce as new services / income streams for the business.
To oversee, build and manage a profitable team of sustainability specialists to grow these new service lines in the medium term (1-3 years).
To be actively involved in the delivery of fee earning sustainability professional services once set up.
3. Client and Internal Relationships
To coordinate with our BD and marketing team to regularly meet with both existing and prospective clients to help sell our services and reinforce our competency as a sustainability focused business.
To identify opportunities to deliver CPD presentations to clients or industry events (plus internally), to help improve Tridents visibility and reputation as a sustainability focused business.
To be visible and accessible to all of the national teams to help mentor our surveyors and drive the implementation of Sustainability into the way we advise our clients on both building surveys and construction projects.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities in relation to sustainability.
Collaborate with other departments within the company to integrate sustainability practices
into all areas of the business.
Represent the company at industry events and conferences, promoting our sustainability
initiatives and building our reputation in the market.
