Job summary
The practice is able to offer a registered nurse considering a career within General Practice. No previous primary care nursing experience is required. Newly qualified nurses or nurses wishing to transition into general practice nursing are welcome to apply. The GPN will also gain understanding of the wider context of primary care through online learning and experiences with the wider community multi-professional team.
Main duties of the job
Each GPN trainee will follow a robust, structured programme, supported by our Practice Nurse Manager. Education and training days will enable the GPN trainee to achieve competencies under supervision. The GPN will develop and be fully competent and able to practice independently by the end of the programme. Responsibilities include:
1. Venepuncture
2. Physical observations - urinalysis, BP, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, blood glucose, peak flow reading
3. Inhaler techniques
4. Swabs
5. INR POCT
6. Wound management
7. Health promotion
8. Health screening
9. Cervical screening
10. Childhood and routine immunisations
11. Contraception
12. Zoladex injections
13. Travel clinic
