Our client is one of the UK's leading infrastructure contractors and are currently acting as Principal Contractor as part of an Alliance contract on a major midlands based new infrastructure upgrade.
Reporting into the Commercial Director this role is key to leading and managing the commercial team delivering a multidisciplinary major project, from inception through to final accounts and close out, and to deliver maximum commercial results.
Working under a hybrid NEC3 Cost Plus Contract with pain share & gain, this multidisciplinary project includes new and regenerated stations and structures, earthworks, utility diversions and associated railway systems.
Commercial Manager roles and responsibilities:
As a degree qualified Commercial Manager, you will have extensive Tier 1 / Main Contractor experience, with a civils, rail and infrastructure background, and knowledge of streetworks. Key areas of responsibility and accountability include, but not limited to:
Working with the Senior Commercial Manager you will lead, manage, develop and train the commercial teams across your portfolio of projects.
Raise commercial awareness and embed commercial focus and best practise across each project team.
Lead on all contractual matters from inception to close out via in depth understanding of the contract and its implications for profit delivery.
Assisting in the preparation of contract documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, drawings.
Manage the Risk & Opportunities process to allow for the identification of Risk and Opportunities during the tender and construction.
Set and manage budgets ensuring all costs are correctly allocated.
Establishment of robust project life cycle cost forecasts updated monthly and monitored against agreed targets.
Proactively drive the recording of all contractual entitlements, ensure timely notification of events and accurate pricing and substantiation of change.
Establish and maintain rigorous cost controls including early warning systems.
Provide procurement support to ensure each project is delivered safely, timely, at the least cost and to optimal quality.
Negotiate and agree contractual disputes and final accounts.
Commercial Manager requirements:
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial, or similar relevant qualification and experience.
Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) an advantage.
5+ years Commercial Management experience, with a proven track record delivering major infrastructure projects.
Previous Tier 1 experience delivering multi-disciplinary railway projects.
Extensive NEC contract experience.
Demonstrable experience recruiting, managing and upskilling a successful commercial team.
Major project cost and budget administration, with experience of financial and commercial reporting to board level.
Excellent stake holder management and communication skills.
