The SMEO department provides engineering support to RNAS Culdrose and associated ships. As a ground equipment mechanical fitter, youll be working on ground power support units (GPSUs) and hydraulic rigs along with associated aircraft support equipment to keep the Royal Navy flying. Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose delivers the UKs two highest defence priorities: assuring the nuclear deterrent and protection of the nations aircraft carriers. An operational Air Station. Culdrose has a workforce of more than 3000 personnel that are all directly or indirectly involved in generating or supporting the Naval Air Squadrons and their personnel. As a civilian working with naval and contracted personnel, youll be involved in a diverse range of tasking with dynamic goals. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs. Job description Our mechanical fitters work on all systems involved with Air Support Equipment, from hydraulic systems to braking, as well as supporting compressors, generators and adaptors across the base. As a mechanical fitter, you will be responsible for a range of duties including: Carrying out the maintenance, testing, installation and repair of Air Support Equipment (ASE) IAW relevant DAPs and completing the relevant documentation. Maintenance, testing and repair of Functional Machinery (FM), lifting equipment, abrasive wheels and air testing IAW current regulations to ensure compliance with MAA regulations. Offering advice and support to HM ships where ASE cannot be returned. Prioritising ships and flight equipment due to fast turnaround requirements. Delivering instruction regarding maintenance and fault rectification of ASE to Naval personnel booked onto a maintenance course after a suitable length of time in the position. Conducting audits and ensuring the department is complying with current regulations. Driving and logistics around the establishment. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment. This is an overview of responsibilities and there may be additional tasks attached to the above. Flexibility is essential due to priorities that may arise and the nature of our engineering role within RNAS Culdrose. This role will initially require the successful candidate to undertake a period of on-the-job training, though full support will be provided. This includes online mandatory training and additional Health and Safety training. Person specification We are looking for qualified engineers to join our team of civilian personnel who must be able to work as part of a team and manage their own workload. They will be able to quickly build good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation. They will have to be fully qualified (NVQ Level 3 as a minimum in a relevant Engineering discipline) and have appropriate experience and qualifications to allow them to work with little or no supervision.
