We are looking for a Head of Clinical Research to shape, develop and lead the clinical trial and clinical research area of work for infectious disease within Wellcome, with a focus on delivering impact for patients and communities in the geographies most affected by infectious disease.
The position sits within the Infectious Disease Solution Programme, a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering Wellcome’s strategy to address the global health challenge of infectious disease. Our ambitious goal is to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs, vaccines and interventions through to transforming the lives of people suffering from or at risk of infectious disease. We do this by funding research, product development and policy initiatives and focus on diseases affected by environmental change and drug resistance including: Vector and Water borne infections, TB, AMR, and Neglected Tropical Diseases.
This is a new role and an exciting opportunity to shape a clinical research programme as part of Wellcome’s new 10-year strategy. As the Head of Clinical Research within the Infectious Disease Solutions Programme you will:
1. Provide scientific leadership to develop a portfolio of clinical trials and research that is cutting-edge and will deliver impact for the Infectious Disease Solution Programme.
2. Lead and manage a team to deliver and drive the programmes and projects related to all aspects of clinical trials including design, oversight, governance, execution and reporting.
3. Play an active leadership role in the Infectious Disease Solution Programme Senior Management team.
4. Manage and develop relationships with diverse stakeholders including funders, partner organisations, industry and members of the scientific community.
5. Represent Wellcome and the Infectious Disease Solutions Programme nationally and internationally, to identify new partnerships and opportunities to influence and coordinate global health initiatives.
To be successful in this role you will:
1. Be a highly motivated individual with a deep commitment to deliver impact for global health.
2. Have recognised leadership experience working within the infectious disease research area or a related field.
3. Be highly experienced in the design, execution and conduct of clinical trials.
4. Be Medically qualified.
5. Have familiarity and experience with the regulatory requirements for the approval and qualification of new medicines, vaccines and diagnostics.
6. Have worked in or with partners from LMIC countries including organisations and policy makers.
7. Have experience of working in or with the Pharmaceutical Industry (would be an advantage).
