The successful candidate will work closely with students with various special educational needs (SEN), providing them with the support and encouragement they need to succeed both academically and socially. Key Responsibilities of a Special Needs Teaching Assistant: Supporting Learning and Development: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs (SEN) in the classroom. Assist with the implementation of tailored learning plans, ensuring that students are engaged and supported in accessing the curriculum. Adapt resources and teaching materials to meet the specific needs of individual students, promoting independence where possible. Support students with physical and/or emotional needs, helping them to engage positively in classroom activities. Assist with the delivery of targeted interventions, helping students to catch up with missed learning and reach their potential. Student Welfare and Support: Offer emotional and pastoral support to students, ensuring their well-being is always a priority. Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their self-esteem and promoting positive behaviour. Work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to identify students' needs and develop appropriate strategies to support their learning and development. Classroom Management: Support the class teacher in maintaining a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment. Assist in managing student behaviour, ensuring that students are following instructions and working collaboratively. Ensure that students' needs are met during whole-class activities, supporting them to stay on task and make progress. Collaboration and Professional Development: Work collaboratively with the SEN team, teaching staff, and school leadership to ensure consistent, high-quality support for students with SEN. Attend meetings and contribute to discussions around students' progress, support strategies, and overall development. Participate in training and development opportunities to further enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with special needs. Key Skills and Qualifications: Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or childcare is desirable, but not essential, if you have substantial experience in a previous role Additional training in supporting students with autism, dyslexia, or other SEN-related courses is an advantage. Experience: Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, either in a school or other educational setting. Understanding of how to support students with a variety of learning needs, including autism, ADHD and physical disabilities. Experience of working with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups is preferred. You MUST have experience of working in a UK School. Skills and Attributes: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. A patient and compassionate nature, with the ability to provide tailored support to students. Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities. A proactive approach, with a commitment to helping students achieve their personal and academic goals. A passion for working with children and supporting their development, regardless of ability.
