Salary: £47,863 + Depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
Understanding and capturing device and system control requirements
Develop Functional Architecture and interface definition
Produce control model concepts, then detailed design models and test harnesses
Verify and Validate textual requirements in preparation for delivery
Documenting the design
Contributing to safety analysis of the products
Maintain consistent communication across the AVC ‘One Team’ construct
Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies
Capture Learning From Experience (LFE)
Leading or coaching other team members in the above
Lead a team within an agile working environment, generating and maintaining backlogs of work
You will be expected to lead and support the work and professional development of others, offering guidance and support, and sharing your knowledge, expertise and best practice
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
Degree or equivalent experience or qualification in a relevant STEM subject such as Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science
Competence in Mathworks tools to apply Model-Based Systems Engineering principles, tools, and techniques, primarily Simulink and its Test
For Team Leadership roles, responsibility for overall team leadership and management, including task management, prioritisation, performance management, staff development, cost control, and technical quality
Demonstrable knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with the ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work
Demonstrated experience in Mechanical, Actuation, Control, or Fluid Systems Engineering, ideally within marine or aerospace applications or a similar engineering or technology-focused industry
Capable in Microsoft Office packages with the ability to develop competence in more specialist toolsets as necessary
Desirable
Experience in modelling and simulation of both classical and advanced control systems
Knowledge of system testing and qualification processes
Understanding of safety engineering and its application to system design and assurance
A background in developing products within the broader systems engineering lifecycle
Familiarity with system modelling and simulation toolsets such as DOORs, SCADE, SySML, and other Mathworks tools
Experience in Engineering Project Management, including AGILE working awareness

The Active Vehicle control (functional development team) Team:
Working in the Active Vehicle Control (AVC) Functional Development Team offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Model-Based Design (MBD) development and integration of advanced control systems. This role involves collaborating with key stakeholders across BAES Submarines to define system control requirements, develop functional architectures, and create detailed control models and test harnesses. Team members play a crucial role in verifying and validating requirements, documenting designs, contributing to safety analyses, and ensuring seamless integration with Control & Instrumentation, Platform Mechanical, and Software teams. Operating within an AGILE working environment, the team maintains and prioritizes backlogs, continuously improving processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies. A key aspect of the role is fostering a collaborative “One Team” approach, sharing expertise, capturing learning from experience, and mentoring colleagues to enhance overall team capability.
