As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record in leading environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in building and growing teams. This role suits someone passionate about integrating environmental input within the Planning process. The role forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.
As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. Your expertise in environmental management, technical skills, or sustainability could involve work on protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.
We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Facing effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and biodiversity loss, we address large-scale events like floods and wildfires, which are becoming more frequent. Our mission is to protect natural resources while supporting sustainable development.
You will work on a diverse range of projects including large-scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water, defense projects, mixed-use developments for both private and public clients, public realm, and masterplanning projects, as well as smaller projects requiring an agile approach. We promote technical excellence and a flexible, collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and worldwide.
You will also be responsible for:
1. Leading recruitment, growth, overseeing bidding and project delivery, and managing key client relationships.
2. Coordinating and delivering planning and environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development for optimal outcomes.
3. Supporting business development through external profile-raising activities, client engagement, and networking.
4. Creating awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts.
5. Engaging with stakeholders and consultees.
6. Managing projects, ensuring technical, quality, commercial, and safety standards are met.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Strong knowledge of the UK Planning system, consenting process, EIA practices, case law, and environmental principles.
* Experience across various project types.
* Excellent report writing, presentation, and review skills.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and project management.
* Proven ability to negotiate with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
* Commercial skills including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
* Flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative working approach.
* Experience with DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills is a plus.
