GSL Education are looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant in Winton to provide vital support to students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will play a crucial role in helping students develop coping strategies, improve their confidence, and engage with learning. Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams, you will provide personalised support tailored to each student’s unique needs, ensuring they feel valued and understood in a structured learning environment. SEMH TA Responsibilities: Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one or small group basis. Assist in managing challenging behaviour and implementing effective de-escalation techniques. Help students build confidence, resilience, and social skills. Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN coordinators, and therapists to deliver tailored support. Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual student needs. Encourage students to develop positive relationships with peers and staff. Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents. Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. Support students with daily routines and transitions to reduce anxiety and improve focus. Requirements for an SEMH Teaching Assistant: Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges as a Teaching Assistant is preferred. A CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance is desirable but not essential. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is beneficial. Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and emotional regulation strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
