Job summary:
Working under the supervision of a clinician, in accordance with specific patient guidance and practice protocols, the Practice Nurse will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programs of patient care.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. New patient health checks
2. ECG recording
3. Phlebotomy
4. Spirometry
5. Chaperoning duties
6. Blood pressure clinics
7. DMARDS monitoring
8. Family planning
9. Baby immunisations
10. Injections: B12, influenza, pneumococcal vaccines
11. Assisting minor surgery - preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions.
12. Processing and management of laboratory samples required for the team
13. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording
14. Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
15. Clearing and restocking clinical rooms
16. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and wellbeing
17. Helping to raise awareness of health and wellbeing and how it can be promoted
18. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing
19. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients
20. Delegated and taught specifically in relation to an individual patient

Health and safety:
The post holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and manage their own and others’ Health and Safety in accordance with practice policies, the Health and Safety manual, and the practice Infection control policy.
1. Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
2. Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness / regulatory / contractual / professional requirements / good practice guidelines
3. Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labeling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage, and transport arrangements
4. Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice including provision, ordering, availability, and ongoing correct usage by staff
5. Infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, implementation of those protocols across the practice
6. Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness, and related activities
7. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
8. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, to initiate and manage the training of others
9. Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control
10. Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage, and disposal
11. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean, sterile, and safe way
12. Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognized
13. Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas clean and identifying issues and hazards/risks
14. Undertaking periodic infection control training
15. Routine management of own team/team area, maintenance of work space standards
16. Waste management including collection, handling, segregation, and storage
17. Spillage control procedures, management, and training
18. Decontamination control procedures, management, and training
