Due to our continued growth an exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Town Planner to join the Consents and Environment team to take a lead role representing the teams interests on strategic network planning matters.
This is a new role within a highly professional, experienced, supportive and multi-award winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives. You will work with a high level of autonomy with the benefit of experienced support and guidance where required.
You will
- Represent the Consents & Environmental Team interests on strategic network planning activities both within SSEN Transmission as well as externally (e.g. National Energy System Operator).
- Drive and own delivery of input for the development of Centralised Strategic Network Plans national methodology and coordinate the ongoing annual Centralised Strategic Network Plans deliverables from a consents and environmental perspective.
- Seek out and establish trusted external stakeholder relationships to efficiently plan for large scale strategic network projects from a consenting and environmental perspective. This will involve developing senior level relationships with Local Planning Authorities, Scottish Government Planning Directorate, Energy Consents Unit, statutory consultees and the National Energy System Operator, as appropriate.
- Develop process and procedure to set out the extent to which strategic network planning activities feed into Local Development Planning as well as the National Planning Framework
Knowledge and experience of Local Development Planning in Scotland.
- Knowledge and experience of Strategic Environmental Assessment.
- Excellent communication skills, being able to articulate complex strategic planning issues to a wide variety of stakeholders.
- A Planning related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant role (e.g planning authority, planning/environmental consultancy). Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or similar environmental professional body.
- A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload.

Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.
