Job Description
AECOM is currently recruiting for a Senior Building Physics Engineer to join their London office within the Building Physics Specialisms Team. The role involves working on various building types including offices, residential, retail, healthcare, education, and cultural buildings, as well as international projects.
The Senior Building Physics Engineer will be involved in all aspects of building environmental and engineering modelling, from early planning submissions to full practical completion. Responsibilities include preparing specifications, undertaking advanced computer modelling, reporting outcomes and recommendations, and mentoring junior team members.
The ideal candidate will be working towards chartership, with proven design experience, and the ability to deliver quality work within set timeframes and budgets. A background in mechanical engineering or building services is preferred, along with enthusiasm, self-motivation, and career advancement goals.
About the team
The Building Physics team supports MEP engineers and the SDA group with thermal modelling. The core team is based in Aldgate Tower, with additional support from other offices across the UK. The team works across sectors including commercial, domestic, healthcare, education, defence, sports, and leisure, and is involved in large international projects.
Responsibilities
1. Manage all production aspects of projects, gather necessary information from architects, quantity surveyors, and design consultants.
2. Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, handle submissions to authorities, and obtain approvals.
3. Keep the design team informed of all technical information throughout the project.
4. Produce design information, perform calculations, and ensure documentation complies with standards and internal processes.
5. Represent AECOM at meetings during design and construction phases.
6. Perform advanced IES modelling, including Apache HVAC, Part L, EPC analysis, and energy modelling (experience with NABERS, TM54, BREEAM, ASHRAE preferred).
7. Understand net zero carbon concepts and advise on reducing energy and carbon in buildings.
8. Prepare clear reports and technical notes for clients.
9. Conduct quality reviews of modelling work.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Ability to work independently, accurately, and efficiently, taking ownership of projects.
* Proactive in self-development, ideally nearing Chartered Engineer status.
* Experience in managing tasks for junior engineers.
* Knowledge of IES, Revit, Window, Thermo, Python scripting, and Excel.
* Experience in training and supervising junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree in mechanical engineering, building services, or related discipline.
* Chartered status or progress towards CIBSE EPC (LCEA) and low carbon energy qualifications.
