Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in pacing and another subspecialty
We wish to appoint a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in pacing. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced colleague to join one of the largest pacing services in the UK. The successful applicant will support the provision of pacing services in Norfolk and Waveney and undertake on-call duties in general cardiology. Additional subspecialty interests in imaging or heart failure are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
NNUH provides a regional pacing service, undertaking more than 1400 procedures per year. In 2022/23 it was the largest bradycardia pacing service in the country and in the top third of complex pacing centres. In addition, we also undertake leadless pacing and subcutaneous ICD. Following recent expansion there are 13 pacing sessions per week, including weekend and anaesthetic lists. The service is delivered by 8 consultants, some of whom are amongst the highest volume implanters in the country. Complication rates are constantly monitored and remain very low. Pacing activity has increased by 10% per year for the past decade largely due to the increasingly elderly population in this region. We anticipate growth will continue in a similar trajectory over the next few years. We have a well-trained, dedicated CRM physiology team, most of whom are now IBHRE, EHRA or BHRS accredited. They have extensive experience in all aspects of CRM and all device manufacturers. Pacing and complex device follow-ups are performed independently in a self-contained area of the department, with troubleshooting intervention from pacing consultants and subspecialty SpRs. Mediconnect pacing- and ICD database software is in use, and remote follow up is the default. Satellite services are provided at JPUH. Three dedicated arrhythmia specialist nurses participate in patient follow-up, counselling, education and pre-assessment.
