Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse
A Clinical PCCOT Band 7 nurse.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Clinical Team part-time at Nottingham's Children's Hospital (PCCOT).
You will be a clinically credible nurse experienced in paediatric acute or critical care nursing, utilising clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to deliver high-quality evidenced-based care to the acutely unwell deteriorating ward-based patient.
A recognised children's critical care qualification is desirable and/or significant acute emergency pathway experience, and you will need to be an APLS/EPALS provider.
You will have proven leadership and negotiation skills, demonstrating effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team—a vital component of this role.

About us
The paediatric CCOT team offers a 24/7 service, with one clinical Band 7 PCCOT nurse working per shift. We collaborate with Paediatricians and nurse specialists using evidence-based specialist skills in the care of the sick and deteriorating child. Our dynamic and motivated team aims to improve patient outcomes and provide support and education within the children's hospital.
Job responsibilities
To provide specialist advice and clinical support to the Children's Hospital and the wider Trust regarding the acutely ill/deteriorating child in the non-critical care environment.
1. Assist staff with planning and delivery of care to higher dependency patients, including those on the spinal pathway.
2. Review patients with high PEWS scores and support ward teams with their care.
3. Support staff with complex procedures.
4. Act as an expert resource for the MDT regarding the recognition and rescue of the deteriorating child.
5. Respond to escalations and paediatric emergency 2222 calls.
6. Review patients at risk of clinical deterioration who may not trigger PEWS.
7. Provide short periods of high dependency care on the ward until a patient improves or a critical care bed is available.
8. Facilitate escalation of treatment to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit.
9. Assist in the care of Level 1/2 LTV patients on the ward.
10. Support delivery of High Flow Oxygen using the AIRVO device to ward patients.
11. Review all patients following discharge from Critical Care and Neonatal services.
