What skills and experience we're looking for
“Difference is the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth, and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict. Therein lies a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for diversity.”-John Hume
Laurus Cheadle Hulme are currently looking for a dedicated Teacher of RS with PSHE and Citizenship who can contribute to our commitment to providing exceptional teaching and learning experiences. We are searching for an individual who possesses a genuine enthusiasm for teaching Religious Studies with PSHE and Citizenship, both within the classroom and beyond. This post is suitable for both experienced teachers or newly qualified teachers.
To understand the world around us, and how we fit into that world, we must attempt to understand the cultures, traditions, customs and beliefs of the people we share it with, as well as developing a better understanding of who we are. It is every child’s right to become equipped with the powerful knowledge that will allow them to be a respectful, tolerant, and active citizen who can form and evaluate their own opinions whilst accepting those of other people.
What the school offers its staff
Laurus Cheadle Hulme (LCH) is a non-selective, non-denominational Free School. It opened in September 2018. We currently have a total of 1064 students on roll.
Cheadle Hulme is a pleasant residential suburb on the edge of the Borough of Stockport, eleven miles south of the centre of Manchester. The location enjoys the advantages of proximity to the open countryside of Cheshire and the Peak District and the cultural and sporting activities of a major city.
Our students are housed in a purpose-built building with access to state-of-the-art facilities and overlooking Bruntwood Park, with our Year 11 students progressing to Sixth Forms in the Laurus Trust. We share the same site as Cheadle Hulme Primary School.
In 2024 Laurus Cheadle Hulme achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results with over 78% of students achieving at least a grade 4 standard pass and 59% a strong pass in English and Maths. Additionally, 32% of all students grades were at 9-7, the top grades possible. Our Year 9 students also received phenomenal results in GCSE Spanish. 81% of our Year 9s achieved the gold standard of a grade 5 or better, 88% of students achieved at least a grade 4 or above, and 50% of students achieved a grade 7 or above. These results far outstrip national Year 11 figures. Teachers across the school are extremely proud of this achievement and look forward to seeing what the class of 2026 can achieve when they reach year 11!
The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022 and this year, was awarded ‘Northwest Comprehensive School of the Year 2024’.
