This extensive programme covers the entire Southern Water Services region including the Isle of Wight. The clean water infrastructure programme will require upgrading existing assets and installing new assets to reduce leakage and usage across the region. The wastewater programme will support Southern Water Services in protecting & improving the environment for their communities and customers, ensuring healthy rivers and seas through growth, enhancement, and sustainability, with a focus on carbon reduction and social value.

Morrison Water Services is currently looking to recruit a Design Engineer to work on our Southern Water Contract in Brighton. As a Design Engineer, you will enable projects to be delivered on time, within budget, to specification, client needs, and the needs and regulations of other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
* The Design Engineer will be responsible for the hydraulic, civil, and mechanical design of clean water network solutions, including but not limited to mains rehabilitation/replacement, equipment selection, and pipeline sizing.
* Prepare and analyse key design options for review and agreement with the Project Manager and the client, ensuring risks and gaps are mitigated while upholding the Project Basis of Design.
* Strong knowledge of data set management to facilitate and support strategic thinking within the business.
* Experience with GIS systems and the implementation and interaction with other systems.
* Experience in risk reduction while following holistic design principles.
* Understanding and experience of the importance of customer and stakeholder management to build successful relationships.
* Conduct engineering evaluations (with field inspections) and feasibility studies for clean water projects, analysing data and identifying potential issues or improvements.
* Collaborate with Project Engineers and the Morrison Water Services Enabling Team to ensure buildability and risk reduction is considered along with compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
* Develop and maintain project documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications adhering to change management processes and document control.
* Escalate issues that may impact time, cost, or quality before they become problems or exceed agreed timescales.
* Support the drive towards excellence in H&S, demonstrating applied knowledge and skills to produce safe designs to discharge your obligation according to CDM Regulations, standards, and accepted codes of practice.
Design Engineer Required Skills:
* Proficient skills, knowledge, and experience in utility engineering and design principles including strategic planning and network optimisation.
* Proficiency in using engineering software and hydraulic modelling tools, MS Office Suite, and relevant engineering design software packages such as Arc GIS or similar.
* Excellent analytical, hydraulic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve engineering issues.
* Strong project and organisational skills: able to prioritise tasks, manage designs, and meet deadlines.
* Strong communication, reporting, and team management skills with Design Officer and Manager.
* Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements in relation to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
* Attention to detail and accuracy in design calculations, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
* Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of water and wastewater engineering; membership of a professional organisation such as ICE or IMECHE is preferred. Professional registration will be supported.
Additional Information:
This is an area-based role requiring regular travel throughout the client operational region, occasional overnight stays, and office attendance as required to meet the role.
Average 45 hours a week, Monday to Friday shifts between 7am and 5pm, times as required.
