SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.
Job Summary: We are seeking a Development and Design Technician to become part of the Experimental Design and Support group within the organisation to assist in the design, manufacture and modification of experimental equipment across the site.
You should have a mechanical engineering background and experience in mechanical assembly, production of engineering designs, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Experience of welding, basic electrics and 3D printing would be an advantage. Training will be provided where needed – we particularly value applicants who are enthusiastic to learn new skills and techniques.
Experience Required
* Apprenticeship in general engineering/toolmaking or equivalent skills gained through several years of work experience of general engineering.
* Qualified to HND/HNC in mechanical engineering.
* Must have worked with CAD 3D modelling packages, preferably Creo Parametrics or similar. Working knowledge of producing parts and complex assemblies. Able to apply these skills to produce working engineering drawings for manufacture of items by on-site workshop or external sub-contractors.
* Experienced user of workshop engineering machines including CNC mills and lathes, ideally with Prototrak and/or Fanuc operating systems.
* Experience of use and maintenance of 3D printers.
* Electrical experience and skills.
Key functions
* Provide technical advice on engineering and design matters to technical and scientific staff. Advise in the choice of materials and manufacturing processes.
* Develop and manufacture test equipment and apparatus for projects to timed schedules.
* Incorporate safe working procedures in all aspects of the job and maintain a safe working environment.
* Conduct troubleshooting to correctly diagnose design problems and suggest solutions to rectify them.
* Learn and support operations in areas within the main test facility.
* Use standard PC software.
* Perform other duties in the work environment as assigned.
* Nurture a team spirit and actively assist the group activity.
