We are currently looking for an ambitious, talented, and motivated Director (Operations or Technical) to join our Scotland Highways Department. This role would be based in our Glasgow office and can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
Our highway engineering teams are recognised industry leaders, and operate across several markets including strategic roads, local roads, and private developments. Our current portfolio of projects include trunk road and motorway schemes, local authority road network improvements, active travel and public realm projects across Scotland and beyond. We work for a range of clients including national government agencies, local authorities, private developers and contractors.
Some of our recent projects include: The Queensferry Crossing, Cross Tay Link Road; Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside; the A96 Hardmuir to Fochabers Dualling, M9 Winchburgh Interchange; and Aberdeen South Harbour Link Road.
We use the latest design software and techniques to produce innovative and efficient design solutions for our clients with safety and sustainability at the forefront of our minds.
What does the role involve:
Depending on which route you choose your responsibilities will include:
Operational
* Fulfilling the role of Project Executive across a portfolio of projects.
* Project Managing large projects.
* Holding profit and loss accountability across a portfolio of projects.
* Identifying opportunities in the marketplace.
* Directing / managing / contributing to tenders.
* Growing our team.
* Leading a happy successful team, delivering on your commitments to the business.
* Undertaking a leading role in developing and maintaining our relationships with key clients and partners through active market research, client engagement and building strong relationships through excellent delivery and expert knowledge.
Technical
* Performing the role of Technical Authority across a portfolio of projects to ensure technical risks and design discipline interfaces are identified, managed and high quality outputs are maintained.
* Delivering and monitoring technical governance and assurance on projects in accordance with our Project Management Framework.
* Ensuring consistency of design approach and deliverable outputs across the project portfolio.
* Drive the technical development of colleagues and innovation across our business.
* Be a technical expert in the field of highway design.
* Provide high quality technical advice to our clients.
* Actively engage in the technical promotion of our business.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess:
* The ability to work across multi-discipline environments within Scottish and UK business areas and generate business from leads.
* Good client understanding of projects across the division with great sales and presentation skills.
* The ability to influence strategic decision-making within the business and make commercial decisions within defined parameters (delivers to agreed project scope, time, cost and quality).
* Excellent consultancy, communication and relationship management skills with experience of conducting workshops and giving presentations.
* The ability to engage with key stakeholders to gain commitment and to influence the acceptance of new ideas and concepts in respect of change plans.
* Experience of delivering across a multi-site organisation.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit different audiences.
* Strong leadership skills to enable you to be a pro-active part of the business unit management team working alongside and providing support to the wider team in the development of overall objectives.
* Extensive experience of relevant tender processes with the ability to understand the brief and demonstrate our professional capability.
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable.
