Knowledge and ability to work within both normal and abnormal antenatal care, labour and postnatal care and to deal appropriately with emergencies in the absence of medical staff. Knowledge of Child protection policy and legislation in practice. Effective communication with good interpersonal skills. Ability to cope with complex obstetric and medical situations, Effective counseling skills when dealing with face to face consultations within the maternity setting. Ability to communicate to groups of people including parenting skills and childbirth knowledge Ability to liaise with specialist agencies e.g. Social services. Acts as advice resource for GPs / A&E / Hospital and wards. Awareness of health and safety issues within the community setting and compliant Uses appropriate moving and manual handling techniques, as part of daily activities within the community setting and assisting women during birth, post operatively and during the post natal period. Constant application of analytical skills to practice Competence in handling a vehicle in all weather conditions
