Our new Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is hiring for a Band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join our vibrant team, proud to deliver value-based care while developing staff career progression.
This challenging, fast-paced unit sees a mixture of medically and gynaecological expected patients, providing same-day and rapid diagnostics with the aim of assisting and facilitating same-day discharge.
We are looking for a flexible team player with excellent communication skills, who can work a mixture of shifts across our 7-day rota. This flexibility enables us to deliver high-quality patient care while allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Therefore, your package with us includes much more than just your pay.
Main duties of the job
* Follow the individual plan of care for each patient when undertaking the following:
o Bed making
o Assist patients with personal hygiene
o Assist with treatment and prevention of pressure areas and continence management
o Assist patients with elimination requirements, including catheter care
o Assist patients to rehabilitate
o Assist patients with choosing and recording intake of meals
o Feed patients and maintain fluid balance charts as required
o Complete nutritional assessment records and weigh patients as required
o Monitor and maintain fluid balance records, food and weight charts as required
o Use equipment competently following training
o Escort patients to other departments/hospitals for investigation or treatment as necessary
* Following training and assessment, assist the Registered Nurse in other duties including:
o Simple dressings
o Assisting with out-patient clinics
o Routine specimens and urine testing
o Taking and recording of vital signs
o Blood glucose monitoring
o Venepuncture and Cannulation
o Basic life support

* Answer the telephone, take messages and refer to the Registered Nurse for instructions
* Participate in ward/unit meetings, encouraging effective communication
* Assist with the undertaking and implementation of risk assessments
* Undertake direct patient care under the delegation of the Registered Nurse

Person specification
Experience
* Proven relevant and recent experience in the care sector
* Experience in a caring environment
* Experience of working as part of a team
* Good level of literacy, numeracy, verbal and written skills
* Recent patient-facing acute care setting experience
* Basic IT skills
* Previous knowledge of hospital computer systems
Knowledge
* Evidence of relevant patient care
* Evidence of CPD
* Oral and written communication skills
* Competent in the use, care and management of equipment
