The post is for a Soft Tissue Knee and Foot & Ankle Surgeon with a specialist interest in soft tissue and sports injuries of the knee and a general foot & ankle practice. The current working model includes a 1 in 8 rota covering a general acute orthopaedic & trauma intake, providing an in-reach and referral service to other Surgical Wards and the Emergency department. There is dedicated daily trauma list capacity for the prompt management of trauma to complement a 24/7 rota, supported by an experienced multi-disciplinary orthopaedic team.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a fellowship trained soft tissue knee and foot & ankle surgeon to join the current team of orthopaedic surgeons. We run a weekly local arthroplasty MDT, and are in the process of developing a hub and spoke MDT system within our local ICT with Hull. We have a wide range of complex cases in the unit including multi ligament reconstructions, peri-prosthetic fractures, infections, and cases referred from our local oncology department with metastatic disease about the hip and knee. The successful candidate will be required to take an active role in overhauling our virtual fracture clinic service and acute knee service.
Individual job plans will be discussed with the post holder on appointment, with the Clinical Director to finalize the job plan which will become operational on commencement. All job plans are agreed in line with the Trust's Job Planning Principles.
Job responsibilities
The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around Scarborough.
* To comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a medical qualification.
* Hold a license to practise with the General Medical Council.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
* Minimum 12 months Post FRCS Fellowship in Specialist Knee Surgery.
* BLS ATLS.
* MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research.
* Fellowship experience in complex knee trauma, soft tissue knee and multi-ligament knee reconstruction, osteotomy, primary and revision knee arthroplasty.
* Substantive NHS experience.
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Clinical Practice/Competence
* Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in general Orthopaedic trauma, Knee Arthroplasty and Soft Tissue Knee.
* Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice.
* Can work effectively despite pressures.
* Experience of working in or setting up clinical decision unit service.
* Experience in surgical management of complex knee reconstructions.
* Experience of delivering service improvement project using up to date and innovative solutions.
Mentoring & Teaching
* Experience of teaching undergraduates and post grad trainees.
* Ability to teach clinical skills.
* Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings.
* Ability to critically review research.
* Experience of supervision of postgraduate trainees.
* Publications in peer review journals.
