An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Health Care Assistant role in a new ophthalmology service - Occulus Medical.
Oculus Medical is a division within Saltaire and Windhill Medical Partnership delivering a range of community-based ophthalmology services in partnership with the BTHFT Ophthalmology Department.
The successful applicant will support the practice team in the delivery of these services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within specific practice guidelines and protocols. The Health Care Assistant will assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education.
We envisage the role will be for two sessions initially with an expansion to grow with service delivery.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Establishing and recording ocular history
2. Establishing and recording visual acuity
3. Instillation of eye drops
4. Undertaking ocular tests including, but not limited to OCT, Visual Fields, Optos, Intraocular pressures
5. Use of BTHFT computer platforms Cerner and Medisight
6. Clinical administration as necessary
7. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care episodes.
8. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being
9. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.

2. Manage, review and identify learning from complaints, incidents, and near-miss events relating to the practice, team, and self.
3. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines for self and others.
Confidentiality
1. Maintain confidentiality of information, acting within the terms of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidance on patient confidentiality.
2. Maintain an awareness of the Freedom of Information Act.
3. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, or other healthcare workers may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality.
Health & Safety
1. Comply with Practice health and safety policies by following agreed safe working procedures.
2. Actively report health and safety hazards immediately when recognised.
3. Keep work and general areas clean and tidy, using appropriate infection control procedures.
4. Correct personal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Safeguarding
The post-holder is expected to be aware of adult and child safeguarding responsibilities in the context of the post and to undertake necessary training.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) working towards gaining equivalent level.
* Care Certificate.
* Ophthalmology course certification.
Experience
* Experience of working in a primary care or health care environment.
* Experience of working with the general public.
* SystmOne, Cerner or Medisight experience.
* Experience of working within an ophthalmology service either in secondary care or other service.
