THE OPPORTUNITY
The role of a Senior Sub Contract Buyer at Leonardo offers a wide variety of experiences and is both exciting and challenging in its nature. This role in particular represents a unique opportunity for a high calibre candidate to thrive and grow within the Surveillance & Protection Technologies (S&PT) sector.
This role will involve actively working in a matrix organisation structure supporting a variety of complex assignments within both the BriteCloud and Sensors Integrated Project Teams (IPT’s) in the S&PT sector. The main focus for this role will be the management of high value and high risk sub-contract commitments that have commonality in complexity across the two portfolios, both tangible and intangible in their nature. The role will look specifically at drawing synergies between the two areas where commonality exists such as supply base and requirements to greater leverage both capacity, contracting terms and relationships with suppliers.
This role will require a demonstrated ability to manage internal and external relationships and will require experience of working cross-functionally in a matrix organisation, in order to influence a breadth of business decisions throughout the Life Cycle Management (LCM) framework. The individual will have strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships, promote customer intimacy and team working.
The individual will need to demonstrate successful subcontract management by developing and managing robust contracts which mitigate commercial risk and address lifecycle factors whilst fostering and maintaining supplier relationships.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
* Support the delivery of sub-contract management activities and other procurement related services which may be required by the business.
* Lead some relationships with Strategic Leonardo suppliers, holding Supplier Business Reviews, ensuring performance management, risks and impacts.
* Draft and prepare complex contract documentation using standard and non-standard formats.
* Lead the generation and review of 'appropriate' specifications and Statement of Work documents.
* Provide procurement governance in business winning and programme delivery with minimum supervision.
* Engage the supply chain to ensure back to back costings to bids, proposals and flowdowns are included.
* Accountable for some Procurement activities within the Britecloud and Sensors IPT.
* Negotiate agreements and risk/reward mechanisms for business case models.
* Translate customer/project requirements into commercial documents, particularly pertaining to the design, development and production of bespoke complex electronic systems and sub-systems.
* Understand mechanisms of mitigating risk associated with entering into commercial agreements.
* Develop and negotiate robust contracts for services, intangible and tangible deliverables.
* Placing and expediting current account.
* Working in collaboration with cross functional stakeholders to ensure the flow down of appropriate terms and conditions from customer contracts to enable compliance with contractual obligations and mitigate commercial/contractual risks.
* Promote customer intimacy in both internal and external relationships.
* Identify solutions for complex areas of potential risk/opportunity e.g. sub-contract risk, IPR, liability and exchange rate exposure etc. and deliver solutions/mitigations.
* Construct and lead the contracts and supply chain management Life Cycle Management (LCM) deliverables.
* Management of Export Compliance, restrictions and third party rights for all procured items and services.
You really must have:
Strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to develop and nurture internal and external relationships, promote customer intimacy and team working.
A track record of delivering Sub-Contracted work packages.
Qualified to degree level or equivalent or significant relevant work experience (studying towards or achievement of MCIPS is preferred).
A good understanding of the Commercial and Legal Aspects associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry or a similar market sector.
An ability to think ‘outside of the box’ offering solutions to enable the function to add value and innovation.
Ability to engage and influence cross-functional/cross site teams.
Good communication skills – written, oral and presentations.
It would be nice if you had:
* Background and experience of managing software sub contracts and complex terms and conditions is preferred.
* A good working knowledge and understanding of Procurement within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector) and ability to apply them with minimal supervision and direction.
* A good understanding of IPR associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector).
* Degree or equivalent in Business Studies.
* Ideally MCIPS qualified or studying towards.
* SAP familiarity (or equivalent integrated business systems).
